GLENS FALLS — The Glens Falls Dragons are set for their 11th season under the bright lights at East Field. The Dragons open their season on May 30 at 7:00 pm against the Saugerties Stallions.
The Dragons play in the East Division of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. Glens Falls finished last season 12-28 and earned an honorable mention PGCBL All-Star in outfielder Aidan Gallagher.
Glens Falls have brought in a mix of local talent, as well as some players from outside of the area.
“We have over 30 kids on the roster, including quite a few kids from the Albany, Saratoga area. We are looking forward to having a lot of families come watch their kids play at East Field,” Dragons team owner Ben Bernard said by phone Thursday.
Bernard has continued to make improvements at East Field over the last few years. The new seating was installed behind home plate a couple of years ago, and this year the Dragons organization is focused on working on the field.

“We had a company that helped us out with something that hasn’t been done in quite a few years,” Bernard said. “We aerated, fertilized and did weed control on the infield and outfield. Groundhogs (Lawn Care), right here in South Glens Falls, came and gave us a big boost. It should look really good during the season.”
The Dragons continue their work around the area with the youth leagues, a mission that they strive for every season.
“The biggest thing is getting the Little Leaguers in here,” Bernard said. “They get to realize that their fathers and grandfathers were here with the Chicago White Sox, the Detroit Tigers, the (Adirondack) Lumberjacks and (Glens Falls) Golden Eagles. It’s the baseball tradition to carry East Field through.”
Glens Falls is still looking for host families for some players to live with them throughout the PGCBL season, which runs from now through the end of July.
“If a family has a 12-13 year-old looking for a big-brother type thing for a couple months, give us a call,” Bernard said.
The Dragons are hoping for a successful season on and off the season in Glens Falls. The Dragons have two promotions set for this season. Friday, June 5 is Hannaford Night at East Field, with Hannaford Supermarkets partnering with the team to support local food pantries.
Fans who bring a non-perishable food item to the June 5 game will receive free admission as the Dragons host the Amsterdam Mohawks.
June 26 will be Bigfoot at the Ballpark night, with a few special surprises as Glens Falls hosts Mohawk Valley.
