Brisk temperatures are great for enjoying s’mores beside a backyard firepit while under comfy blankets, but does cozy greet you ahead of winter’s bluster once you head indoors?
How does quiet, cozy and cost-efficient sound?
If you’ve been thinking about converting an older fossil fuel heating system to clean, energy-efficient heat pump technology, there’s never been a better time to make the switch.
Simons Heating and Cooling, Inc., in Queensbury, New York, is family owned and operated, serving the climate-control, comfort and indoor air quality needs of residents in Rensselaer, Saratoga, Warren and Washington counties, and much of the lower Adirondacks — the Empire State’s coldest region.
Making a change
Are you ready when temperatures dip — or soar?
Danyan Garcia, marketing director at Simons, said a surge in consumer interest in switching to electric heat and high-efficiency minisplit systems is driven by a quest for energy savings, lower utility bills and environmental concerns over keeping fossil fuel heaters like oil going.
“The switch from oil to an electric heat pump means roughly a 35% reduction in energy usage per year, or about $1,500 to $2,000 in savings on utility costs, on average,” Garcia said.
Cash-back incentives
Residents who qualify for New York State Clean Heat Program rebates can reap cash back by converting to newer, Energy Star-rated, high-efficiency HVAC systems like electric minisplit heat pumps.
Consumers who make the switch to qualifying systems may receive about $5,000, on average, in program rebates.
Additional incentives can offset installation costs by as much as 70%. And for those able to take advantage of New York State Research and Development Authority discounts — coupled with the state’s clean heat program — rebates may fund from 70% to 100% of project costs.
“There are significant rebates right now. From manufacturer rebates to New York state tax credits for home energy efficiency, we help customers navigate rebates, and we offer 0% financing and product warrantees,” Garcia said.
Simons professionals help customers take advantage of rebates and tax credits; however, it’s important to consult with a qualified tax professional regarding eligibility and rebate offers.
Energy Star-rated products
Simons carries LG and Lennox electric HVAC systems, known to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and reliance on fossil fuels, among other system types.
The Lennox MLB Series offers high-efficiency, variable-capacity, cold-climate minisplit heat pumps, while the LG systems boast increased flexibility with a four-way installation, so you have more system design flexibility.
Both manufacturers offer Energy Star-certified products, which meet or exceed federal guidelines for energy-efficient performance.
Energy Star-rated systems translate to lower operational costs — and notable energy savings — over the unit’s lifetime.
With Wi-Fi-enabled system capability, you can control settings, receive trouble alarms and adjust the unit whether you’re at home, at the office, traveling or away on vacation.
Garcia reminds customers to keep service records and save receipts in case you need to provide them to manufacturers to prove regular maintenance was performed annually and maintain equipment warranties.
“With any home heating system you want to have annual professional service and maintenance,” Garcia explained. “Many manufacturers require proof of service in order to honor their warranty.”
