WATERTOWN -- Watertown cut down the Glens Falls Golden Eagles’ Brandon Matthews at the plate for the final out in the top of the ninth inning Thursday night, as the Wizards held on for an 8-7 Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League victory.
Glens Falls fell to 0-2 despite hitting three home runs, including one by Kevin Meyers, who finished a double short of hitting for the cycle. Meyers drove in three runs on three hits. Danny Brennan led off the game with a solo homer, and Chase Griffin also hit a solo shot for the Golden Eagles.
Glens Falls battled back from a 5-2 deficit, but could not close the gap.
In the top of the ninth, Griffin singled, Matthews entered to pinch run, and with two outs, Mike Vigliarolo doubled. Matthews tried to score from second, but was thrown out on the relay from center field.
Watertown also made noise with the bats, as the Wizards got a three-run homer from Cole Gleason and a solo shot by Christian Hickman. Gleason finished with three hits and three RBIs.
Glens Falls is scheduled to host Amsterdam on Friday at 7 p.m. at East Field.
