BASEBALL

Jan. 15-16: The 2019 Skidmore Winter Baseball Clinic will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Skidmore College Sports Center for players ages 6-13. The cost is $90. Staff is Skidmore head coach Ron Plourde and assistant coaches Mike McFerran and Matt Pisani. Players should bring their own gloves and bats. For more information, call 518-580-5380.

BASKETBALL

Saratoga basketball: The City of Saratoga Springs Rec Department is accepting registration for its winter youth basketball leagues. Participants may register in person at the Rec Center, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Coaches are needed for all divisions.

CHASE SPORTS

Batting cages: Now open ($15 for 15 minutes or $30 for one hour).

Instruction: Private baseball or softball hitting, fielding and pitching instruction for $20 (30 minutes), and $40 (one hour).

COACHING COURSES

Dec. 15-16: Theories and Techniques of Coaching will be taught at Vent Fitness Center in Guilderland, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is one of the courses required to coach in New York state high schools. The cost is $225 if registered after Dec. 5. Tuition fees are non-refundable, but may be applied to future classes. HORSE RACING MUSEUM

Free admission/promotions: The museum will have free admission all day for visitors on the final Sunday of each month, free Fridays all year (2 p.m. to close) and free seniors admission (age 55 and older) all day every Wednesday throughout the year. LACROSSE

RUNNING/WALKING

Dec. 31: The 21st annual Saratoga Arts First Night 5K will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Skidmore College. For more information, visit saratoga-arts.org.

Jan. 1: The ninth annual Big A’s 5K run/walk will be held at Glens Falls High School, starting at 10 a.m. The race benefits the Jeff Aurelia Scholarship Fund. Check-in and race-day registration is available from 7:45 to 9:45 a.m. Costs are $15 for TAR/ARE members, $20 for preregistered competitors and $25 day of race. March 23: The annual Doc Lopez Run for Health, based in Elizabethtown, will feature a half marathon, a 5K run and a 1-mile walk. Registration is available at DocLopezRun.com and AdirondackCoastEvents.com.

SARATOGA REC

SNOW SPORTS

Dec. 15: The Gore Mountain Snowshoe Race will be held at 2 p.m. at the Ski Bowl. There will be masters (5K) and recreational (2.5K) divisions with numerous age categories. For more information, visit goremountain.com.

Jan. 7-March 11: West Mountain will hold its Monday Night Racing program, starting with registration at 6 p.m. Races start on the Face at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 per person plus a valid lift ticket. No previous race experience is required, and all ages and experience levels are welcome. Awards follow in the West Mountain Bar & Eatery.

Jan. 12: The six-hour HURT Mega-Relay will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Garnet Hill Ski Lodge in North River. Cost is $25 per skier if registered online or $30 day of. Each team must have a minimum of three and a maximum of eight to participate. Registration and check-in starts at 9 a.m. To register or for more information, visit skireg.com/hurt-mega-relay.

Jan. 12: The inaugural Gurney Lane Fat Bike & Snowshoe Races will be held at the Gurney Lane Recreation Area in Queensbury. The day features a 5k snowshoe race at 10 a.m. and both a 5-mile and 10-mile fat tire races. Demos are available.
