The Jacksonville Jaguars released veteran defensive tackle Malcom Brown, a move that will save $3 million in 2022. The 28-year-old Brown was the 32nd overall pick by New England in the 2015 draft. He was entering the final year of a two-year, $11 million deal with the Jaguars. He was scheduled to count $7.5 million against the salary cap this season. Instead, he will cost $4.5 million in dead money. Brown had fallen behind starting nose tackle DaVon Hamilton and second-year backup Jay Tufele on the depth chart. The Jags signed linebacker Wyatt Ray to fill Brown’s roster spot.
Las Vegas tight end Darren Waller was one of several key players who returned to practice for the Raiders on Wednesday. Waller had been out since late last month for undisclosed reasons. He told The Associated Press recently at a WNBA game for the Las Vegas Aces that he was working through some things, was progressing and that he expected to return to practice this week. The Raiders got several other important players back with four being taken off the physically unable to perform list with cornerback Trayvon Mullen, defensive tackles Bilal Nichols and Johnathan Hankins, and receiver Dillon Stoner on the field for practice for the first time this summer.
Indianapolis coach Frank Reich enjoyed watching the first joint practice with the Detroit Lions. He liked the spirited play, the intensity, even the controlled chippiness.
