WHEELING, W.V. — Two early goals by Wheeling led to the end of three streaks for the Adirondack Thunder on Wednesday, as the Nailers downed the Thunder 6-3 in ECHL action.

The loss ended the Thunder’s five-game point streak, their two-game win streak and goaltender Drew Fielding’s five-game win streak.

The Nailers scored twice in the first five minutes on tallies from Riley Bourbonnais and Garrett Meurs. Adirondack made it 2-1 on Tim Harrison’s fifth goal of the season from the right circle.

Wheeling made it 3-1 after two periods and 4-1 5:52 into the third period.

Less than a minute later, Brian Ward earned his ninth goal of the season when, from behind the net, he fired a pass toward the crease, where it deflected off a Nailer’s stick and in the goal. Shane Conacher and Martin Brodeur collected assists, with Conacher extending his point streak to six games.

The Nailers added a shorthanded tally to make it 5-2, but Ty Loney’s one-timer cut it to 5-3. Brodeur and Conacher again had the assists.

It was the sixth time this season the Thunder have had a win streak stop at two games.

The Thunder finish the week with a home-and-home series against Reading on Friday and Saturday, with Saturday’s game being at Cool Insuring Arena.
