PORTLAND, Maine — The Adirondack Thunder scored a late goal to send the game into overtime, but Maine’s Ryan Gropp broke their hearts with a shootout goal to lift the Mariners to a 5-4 victory Friday.

It was Maine’s first win over Adirondack in four tries this season.

John Edwardh scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season, the latter coming with 1:44 left in the third period and goalie Alex Sakellaropoulos on the bench in favor of another skater.

The Thunder unleashed 51 shots on Maine goalie Brandon Halverson, but the second-round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2014 NHL draft showed why he is so valuable.

James Henry and Shane Conacher each had a goal and an assist for Adirondack (13-8-0-2), while Kevin Lough contributed three assists. It was Henry’s third goal in two games.

The Thunder return home Saturday to face Brampton. The team will have a coat drive and postgame skate as part of the evening.
