Hudson Falls pulled off a second straight upset on Tuesday, beating second-seeded Bishop Gibbons in the Class B semifinals to reach the championship match of the Section II Volleyball Tournament.
The Tigers won by scores of 25-23, 25-16, 11-25 and 25-15. They will take on No. 1 seed Broadalbin-Perth in the Class B final on Saturday at Saratoga High School (7 p.m.).
The Tigers were seeded sixth for the tournament, but knocked off Johnstown in the quarterfinals before Tuesday's semifinal win. Coach Sarah Carney said she wasn't really surprised her team made the title match.
"I'm not because I know what this team has been capable of all season," she said. "I think they stepped up exactly when the needed to, showing what competitors they are."
Among the Tigers' leaders was Meghan Marchese who served for 24 service points and had nine kills. Molli Burch had 10 kills and Raeann Bombard recorded 32 assists.
Also contributing were Olivia Milligan (nine kills), Hannah Strong (23 digs) and Carley Toole (18 digs).
