Cambridge girls fare well in Group 5 sectional meet

FONDA — Cambridge girls won four events and added four second-place finishes as the Indians took third in Tuesday's Group 5 sectional track and field meet at Fonda-Fultonville High School.

The Whitehall girls, who had a pair of winners, placed sixth in the team standings.

On the boys side, Cambridge finished fifth with one winner in Kaedin Ogilvie, who captured the 400-meter dash in 54.14 seconds. He was also third in the 200.

The Cambridge girls got wins from Anna Headwell in the 800 with a time of 2:27.79, and Ruth Nolan in the 400 hurdles in 1:13.23. The Indians' 1,600 and 3,200 relays also won, with Headwell and Nolan running on both, along with Vanessa Evans. Kaitlin Simon ran on the 1,600 relay (4:21.05), while Lexi Alpy joined them on the 3,200 relay (10:24.18).

Finishing second for Cambridge were Evans in the 400 (1:04.52), Anna McNulty in the 200 (28.67), Brecke Gifford in the shot put (31 feet, 11 inches) and Eden Bailey in the pentathlon (1908).

Whitehall got wins from Olivia Gomes, who cleared 9 feet for a school record in the pole vault, and Zoe Eggleston in the pentathlon, who finished with 2539 points.

Local girls finishing third were Whitehall's Madison Miner in the 200, the Railroaders' 400 relay, and Cambridge's Alicia Roosevelt in the high jump. The Saratoga Catholic girls 1,600 relay set a school record in placing fourth.

On the boys side, Cambridge's Austin Hackman placed second in the high jump (5-6) and long jump (20 feet), and took third in the triple jump (40 feet). Also placing second were Salem's Jack Thrasher in the 3,200 (10:51.97) and Spa Catholic's Griffin Day in the 1,600 (4:55.25). Warrensburg's 400 relay finished third in 48.80.

The Hoosic Valley girls and Maple Hill boys won the team titles.
