South High: The Bulldogs dropped a frustrating 26-14 non-league loss at Hudson Falls on Saturday, a game in which junior quarterback Connor Bovair was banged up late. South High scored twice in the fourth quarter, on a Dylan Schrammel run and Kyle Holub's flea-flicker pass to Jack Paton, closing within 20-14, but Hudson Falls ended the game on a pick-six. Mistakes had also cost the Bulldogs in an opening loss to Mohonasen.
Burnt Hills: The Spartans, ranked sixth in the New York State Sportswriters Association poll, return a number of standouts from last season, including QB Darien LaPietro and running backs Vincent Daviero and D.J. Lashley. Daviero and Lashley combined to rush for 291 yards and five TDs in last week's 49-0 rout of Scotia.
Fast fact: South High has beaten Burnt Hills only once in 16 games, and that was back in 1992. The Spartans beat the Bulldogs twice last year, including 62-21 in the Section II semifinals.
