Thirteen individual runners and two teams from the area will compete in Saturday's State Cross Country Championships at Wayne Central School in Ontario Center.
Boys competing are Saratoga's Shea Weilbaker (Class A), South Glens Falls' Frank Triolo (B), Queensbury's Brian Beyerbach and Kevin Bouyea (B), Glens Falls' Chris Hughes (C), Schuylerville's Ethan Burch (C), North Warren-Johnsburg's Brandon Olden and Kenneth Mulvey (D) and Saratoga Catholic's Kevin Cronin (D)
Local girls competing are Saratoga's Kelsey Chmiel and Carly Vetter (A), Queensbury's Emily Atamanchuk (B) and Glens Falls' Katie Culliton (C).
Hughes, Olden and Chmiel are coming off wins at the Section II championships, and Hughes and Chmiel are among the favorites in their classes.
The Greenwich girls and Schuylerville girls will represent Section II in the D and C races, respectively. Greenwich is trying for its third consecutive state title.
The Class C boys race kicks things off at 9 a.m., and it ends with the Class B girls race starting at 12:30 p.m.
