ARGYLE — Salem coach Keith Beattie said it took overtime for it to happen, but the Generals finally started knocking down the shots during their Adirondack League girls basketball game Wednesday at Argyle.
The Generals found a second gear in overtime, outscoring the Scots by 12 points while eventually beating Argyle 58-46.
“We hung together and really increased our intensity,” Beattie said. “Our zone caused issues. We kept changing it up. We’d come out in a zone press then fall back into a one-three-one. That got us turnovers and forced some sloppy passes.”
Mikayah Rushinski led all scorers with 22 points. She added eight rebounds and played the entire game.
“She puts her heart into this and does not give up. She is in good enough shape to play the entire game, and overtime,” Beattie said. “She is an ironman out there for us.”
Forward Mackenzie Spencer finished with 21 boards and 15 points.
“She has a real knack for going to find the ball,” he said. “She knows how to make plays like that and she just desires the ball.”
