Class C girls final

Cambridge poses for the team picture after winning the Class C girls title.

TROY — Freshman Sophie Phillips scored the go-ahead basket on a driving layup with 13 seconds left in overtime, and Grace Snyder added a pair of free throws moments later as Cambridge captured its first Section II title since 2001 with a 62-59 Class C championship victory over Mekeel Christian.

Phillips scored a game-high 19 points and was named Class D Most Valuable Player as she led the Indians (23-1), who advance to play Section VII champion Seton Catholic of Plattsburgh in a regional seminal Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Saratoga Springs High School.

Helen Mooney added 14 points and Lilly Phillips netted 11 for Cambridge, which rallied from a 33-23 halftime deficit to take the lead late in overtime. Mekeel tied the score at 56-56 with 41 seconds left in regulation, but Sophie Phillips' attempt at a winning shot just missed at the buzzer, sending the game to OT. Mekeel took its last lead, 59-58 with less than a minute to play in overtime.

Mekeel (20-3) was led by Rebekkah Dean with 17 points and Altagracia Delarosa with 12.
