PLATTSBURGH — For the second time in two seasons, Ticonderoga is Section VII, Class C champion.

Behind senior Evan Graney’s 16 points, 10 of which he scored in the first quarter, the Sentinels defeated Northern Adirondack 52-41 in the title game at Plattsburgh State on Saturday.

“Prior to last year, it had been awhile since we won,” Ticonderoga coach Joe Defayette said in a phone interview. “We challenged this group and they bought in to what we’re trying to do, and hopefully we can continue this run.”

Up next for the Sentinels (18-4) is a regional semifinal game against Section II champion Lake George (24-0) on Wednesday at Saratoga Springs High School.

Mike Dushane led Ticonderoga with 17 rebounds and Defayette said the intensity he brought to the game helped set a tone early for the Sentinels.

Leading by 10 at halftime, Scotty Ryan nailed a 3-pointer that put Ticonderoga up 13 early in the third quarter and Northern Adirondack was not able to respond.

“A big thing that seems small was Scott Ryan’s 3-pointer,” Defayette said. “That put us up 13 and allowed us to relax offensively.”
