SALEM — Things got interesting for Fort Ann on Wednesday, but the Cardinals found a way to win in a 2-1 Adirondack League baseball victory over Salem.
With the game tied at 1 in the top of the seventh, Ty Loso came up with the bases loaded. After battling on several pitches, he swung at a 1-2 pitch that was low and away, but the ball got away from the catcher. All the runners advanced, giving the Cardinals the go-ahead run.
In the bottom of the seventh, Luke Loso came on in relief of Jack Dornan. He hit a batter with one out, but Brendan Wright later threw him out going to second. Luke Loso threw a strikeout for the final out.
In the top of the sixth, Luke Loso hit a two-out double on an 0-2 count to drive in the tying run.
Both starting pitchers had strong games. Dornan struck out nine and allowed only one hit through six innings. Salem’s Blake Baylor struck out six.
“Blake pitched a heck of a game for them,” Fort Ann coach OC West said. “We knew it would be that kind of a battle. We were pretty pleased to come out of there with a win.”
Carl George had a double and an RBI to lead Salem’s offense.
