NEW YORK — Michael Gabriel of Greenwich set a record while winning the boys weight throw at the state indoor track meet this past weekend.

Gabriel won the event with a toss of 69 feet, 6 3/4 inches on his final try.

The previous record of 67-8 1/2 had been held by Eric Sheng of Syosset since 2015.

Gabriel was also seventh in the shot put with a top effort of 51 feet.

Kelsey Chmiel of Saratoga won the girls 3,000-meter run in a record time of 9:27.88.

Teammate Shea Weilbaker won the boys 3,200 race in 9:13.72. Chris Hughes of Glens Falls was 13th.

In the girls weight throw, Madison Krochina of Stillwater was seventh and Alice Aldrich of Greenwich was 10th.
