AMSTERDAM — The Glens Falls Dragons scored four times in the ninth inning in a last-ditch rally, but fell short against the Amsterdam Mohawks on Thursday, 11-10.
Amsterdam scored seven times in the first four innings and got four more in the fifth to take an 11-1 lead. The Dragons picked up four runs in the sixth and eventually forced the Mohawks go use six pitchers to close out the game.
Andrew Aikins took the loss for Glens Falls, giving up 11 runs (nine earned) on 13 hits through four innings. Connor Romano pitched the final four innings for the visitors, striking out seven while giving up just one hit.
Mathieu Gauthier got the win for Amsterdam with 5 2/3 innings of work, but needed big-time help from the bullpen. Brandon Reitz finally induced a fly ball for the third out to end the game.
Anthony Vaglica went 2 for 4 and drove in three runs for the Dragons. Brian Uliana and Mark Powell each scored three runs for the visitors.
Amsterdam's 14-hit attack included a solo homer by Eric Rivera in the third inning. The Mohawks scored the rest of their runs with a variety of hits.
The Dragons dug into the Amsterdam lead with four in the sixth, an inning highlighted by Jared Morello's two-run double. In the ninth, Brian Wasilewski's RBI double got the Dragons to within one run of the lead, but the game ended on a Brandon Torres fly out.
