After winning the Junior Ski Orienteering National Championships last February, Queensbury senior Will Frielinghaus is headed to the world championships in Lillehammar, Norway, from Jan. 31-Feb. 6.
The runner and cross country skier was one of three boys originally selected to represent the U.S. at the 2011 Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships.
Before the competition begins on Feb. 2, Frielinghaus will take part in the Model event, which involves the distribution of maps to familiarize racers with their surroundings.
He will participate in sprint, middle and long distances, ranging from 3 to 25 kilometers, depending on how efficiently racers find the shortest distance between checkpoints.
At last year's nationals in Craftsbury, Vt., Frielinghaus won the middle and long distances in the 18-and-under junior division.
