UTICA -- The Adirondack Flames returned to their losing ways on Wednesday with a 3-0 loss at Utica. It was the first time they have been shut out, but their fifth loss.

Utica scored both a power-play goal and a short-handed goal in the contest. Hunter Shinkaruk got the Comets started with the power-play goal late in the first period after Sena Acolatse was called for delay of game.

Nicklas Jensen added another early in the third and Brandon DeFazio sealed it with the short-handed goal late in the period.

The Flames committed eight penalties, giving the Comets seven power plays and taking away any chance Adirondack had at building momentum. The six successful penalty kills was a good mark for the Flames.

Joni Ortio made 31 saves on 34 shots for the Flames. Adirondack started with 13 shots in the first period, but could not score and fell off from there with seven shots in the second and nine in the third.
