The number of new COVID-19 cases continued to decline locally this past week, mirroring a trend seen statewide as vaccination efforts continue to progress.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday said he will not extend the state of emergency he declared at the onset of the pandemic, which gave him authority to temporarily modify or suspend laws and issue directives to better respond to the public health emergency.

Beginning Tuesday, all New Yorkers age 50 and older can get vaccinated, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. He also announced that houses of worship for any faith can become vaccination sites next month.
