Two former local high school baseball stars just wrapped up their seasons in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
The NECBL is a summer league for college players that is considered a few notches higher than the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League, the home of the Glens Falls Dragons and the league where Queensbury grad Brett Rodriguez and Fort Ann grad Tyler Mattison played last year.
Rodriguez played for the Connecticut-based Mystic Schooners, made the NECBL all-star game and won the fastest player contest at the game. He finished the season with the Schooners making the playoffs, and had a .295 batting average with 4 homers and 22 runs batted in.
Mattison played for the Newport, Rhode Island Gulls this summer, tossing 31 2/3 innings and picking up 2 wins with a 5.40 ERA.
Mattison will be a sophomore at Bryant University in Rhode Island this fall, while Rodriguez is entering his junior year at Wofford College in South Carolina.
