MONTPELIER, Vt. — Vermont's traditional trout fishing season is underway.

The season opened on Saturday.

A Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department official says conditions may be challenging in early spring due to the recent cold temperatures and deep snow pack. Fisheries Biologist Bret Ladago says anglers may need to adjust their tactics.

He says it "can be key" for anglers to find a river or stream that is clear of ice and not too murky from spring runoff.

The season runs until Oct. 31.
