Thanks to The Post-Star for displaying a picture of President Trump "pardoning" turkeys at the White House before Thanksgiving to help me realize he is finally doing something he is qualified for. The turkeys were the beneficiaries of Mr. Trump's nearly two years of on-the-job training. Let me identify some examples: He has informally pardoned Vladimir Putin, Russian president for interfering in the U.S. elections, use of chemical weapons to kill spies and now cancelling a meeting with Putin to address the Ukraine aggression. Pardoned Kim Jong-un, North Korean president, for use of nuclear weapons. Pardoned Philippines President Duterte for his many human rights violations. Pardoned Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona for his criminal contempt conviction. The Saudi Prince for ordering the killing of the Washington Post reporter. The list of pardons is extensive.
It is important to note that Mr. Trump is not done pardoning yet. With the direction that the Mueller investigation is taking, he is now considering a pardon for Paul Manafort since he became a double agent for Trump at the hearings he testified at. Given Michael Cohen's conviction that he lied to Congress to protect Trump, I can see the potential pardons for Don Jr., Mike Flynn, Roger Stone, etc. Mr. Trump may even try to pardon himself, if he can.
Finally, it is my hope that the United States can be pardoned by all nations, especially our allies, for our being deceived into electing a president who has cast such a shameful shadow over our wonderful country.
