I am writing this letter concerning the conditions of our roads.
A few months ago, I hit a recessed manhole cover on Glen Street in Glens Falls. I called NYSDOT, as I believe it is a state road and was informed that area of Glens Falls is contracted with Glens Falls Water and Sewer. I contacted Glens Falls Water and Sewer and was referred to the city engineer. I left a message, he returned my call, and I told him of the area of my incident. He said they couldn’t find any problem. I said there definitely is a problem and they should check Glen Street as there are multiple potholes, manhole covers and sewer drains that are not in compliance. I also mentioned specifically that near Bowman Street there is one even worse than by the YMCA.
I have had to have my car aligned because of these hazards. It has been well over two months since my complaint (both verbal and in writing), and nothing has been done. Both agencies have been given the information and the problem still exists.
I contacted NYSDOT and have submitted a claim for reimbursement of my alignment and encourage anyone that has had the same problem to contact them and do the same. Maybe something will be done, as when I am driving down into Glens Falls I have noticed more and more problems. Ridge Street is a disaster, Lawrence Street and Ridge was just blacktopped this past week; the problem there is you could lose your car in the hole that existed.
If something is not done about our roads, there is going to be a tragedy and then it will be too late. Open your eyes and do the repairs to make our roads safe.
