July 2017, telephone rings: “I have the perfect position for you,” a total stranger on the other end of the line; “Thank you but I am not looking” is my response. She says something to the effect of “You’ll want to hear about this one.” Fast forward, fly up to New York and set virgin eyes on Glens Falls. Within hours, I am hooked. What an incredible little city, beautifully maintained, old world architectural charm with new age life bustling amongst the twinkling lights of downtown.
My interview at Glens Falls Hospital is the next day, time to spy. What hits me is the design of the building itself, beautiful curvature that beckons you. The signs directing my way were less than appealing and too confusing (this has since been rectified 1,000-fold). “Can I help you?” a smiling face offers. “Yes, I am meeting someone in the main lobby, which direction?” Bold face lies. I’m directed and free to get my secret agent game on. I accepted, and from 800 plus miles away, rent a house sight unseen. Something about that place and that hospital, I wanted in.
July 2018, I belong. The outdoors, community engagement, people, vibrant energy, dedication to patients and staff; time to become a “local.” I purchased my home a mile from the hospital. I love it here, why not be in the thick of it?
After working health care for 13 years, three states, three hospitals and a clinic, ample opportunity to compare quality, compassion, care, energy, passion, dedication and tenacity; Glens Falls Hospital has these and so much more. I am proud to be a patient, employee and community member. Glens Falls Hospital is my hospital. Glens Falls is my home. I give it 5 stars.
