ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Lawmakers in New York state are preparing for legislative hearings on a landmark climate change bill that would move the state to 100 percent renewable energy by 2050.
The state Senate hearing on the so-called Climate and Community Protection Act is set for Tuesday in Albany.
It will be followed by hearings Thursday in New York City and on Friday on Long Island. The bill would wean the state's electrical grid off of fossil fuels while also funding workforce training for the clean energy sector. It also contains funding for parts of the state most impacted by climate change, such as coastal areas or communities prone to flooding.
The hearings are a critical step before the bill heads to a vote in the Senate, where it is expected to pass.
