The Johnsburg man who was arrested following a standoff at a North River home last week will face additional charges, including for injuring a state trooper during his arrest, police said.
A state trooper suffered a broken finger during the Nov. 30 arrest of Caelan J. L'Hommedieu, 22, which occurred after he allegedly burglarized the Stewart's store in Indian Lake about 12 hours earlier, according to State Police.
Troopers believe he used an ax to break a window to get in the closed store, and then stole two packs of Marlboro Light cigarettes before fleeing.
Surveillance video captured the 1:07 a.m. burglary, and troopers several hours later came across a parked car on Starbuck Road in Indian Lake, in which a man who resembled the suspect was seen.
The man fled in the car, prompting a chase on Route 28 that was terminated by State Police for safety reasons. But the vehicle was later located at a home on Route 28 in North River, leading to a standoff and L'Hommedieu's arrest.
L'Hommedieu fought with police though, and a trooper suffered a hand injury that will cause him to miss 6 to 8 weeks, Trooper Jennifer Fleishmann said. The trooper was treated at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
L'Hommedieu was charged with third-degree burglary, a felony, arraigned and sent to Hamilton County Jail for lack of bail. More charges are anticipated, police said.
