TICONDEROGA — Ticonderoga Central School District's proposed 9.5% increase to this year's tax levy failed to pass Tuesday, with 558 votes for and 747 votes against.

Superintendent John McDonald said the board will probably meet Thursday to go over options for a reworked budget proposal, and added that board members are not considering a contingency budget.

McDonald said the proposed budget was mostly to maintain programs and staff from last year, so cuts will have to be made to get the levy lower.
