Raggertail

Raggertail, a mixture of plastic and paper, is seen on Dec. 4 at Lehigh Northeast Cement Co. in Glens Falls. The company has received approval to use the alternative fuel.

Editor's note: Officials announced Tuesday morning that this meeting has been postponed due to the weather forecast. A new date and time have yet to be determined. A previous iteration of this article also stated the public comment period ended Jan. 10, which was incorrect. It has been extended to Feb. 25.

Lehigh Cement Co. is holding an informational meeting for the public about its proposed updates to its air permit at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Adirondack Room of The Queensbury Hotel.

The Glens Falls cement company is looking to burn a paper and plastic mixture called raggertail, as an alternative fuel to combine with natural gas and coal.

Lehigh has said it will present information about its proposal and answer questions Tuesday.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is in charge of approving the permit, and the comment period on the application wraps up Feb 25.
