ORWELL, Vermont — The body of a missing ice fisherman was recovered Wednesday afternoon after he was missing since Monday, according to Vermont State Police. Police said the divers located a body at about 3:30 p.m. matching the description of Lee Wiktorski, 61, of Benson, Vermont. He was last seen at a bait shop in Castleton, Vermont, on Monday afternoon. Searchers located personal items that belong to Wiktorski on the ice near Singing Cedars Landing in Vermont on Monday and located his Dodge pickup truck submerged in 22 feet of water on Tuesday. Wiktorski was not with the truck, and dive efforts were hindered by currents and poor visibility. Search teams returned on Wednesday.
According to Vermont State Police, the body is being transported to Burlington, Vermont, to confirm the victim’s identity and perform an autopsy to determine a cause and manner of death. The investigation is ongoing.
The search began Monday night when Wiktorski did not return home, and Vermont State Police enlisted help from the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs & Border Protection.
Vermont State Police divers and a Coast Guard helicopter also assisted in the search effort.
