Police identify Lake George drowning victim

LAKE GEORGE — Police on Sunday identified the New Jersey man who drowned at Shepard Park Beach over the weekend.

Sebastian Grau, 19, of Vernon, New Jersey, died Sunday morning after he was found unresponsive in the water along the shoreline between the beach and Lower Amherst Street in the village of Lake George on Saturday, police said.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene at 4:10 p.m. Rescue crews administered CPR before transporting Grau to Glens Falls Hospital, where he later died.

New York State Police, the Lake George Fire Department, Lake George Emergency Squad and members of the Lake George Park Commission assisted at the scene.

An investigation into the drowning is ongoing. Anyone with information is being asked to contact the Warren County Sheriff’s Office at 518-743-2500.

A second drowning at Shepard Park Beach was averted this weekend when lifeguards noticed an 11-year-old girl in distress before she was pulled underwater. A lifeguard pulled her out and revived her.

Shepard Park Beach is located off Canada Street in the heart of the village of Lake George. The town pays the village $32,000 for three lifeguards to patrol the beach as part of a shared services agreement.
