QUEENSBURY — Ollie’s Bargain Outlet will be opening in August in a portion of the former Bon-Ton space at Aviation Mall, mall officials announced on Monday.
The retailer, based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, is leasing 30,000 square feet of the roughly 80,000 that had been occupied by Bon-Ton. Ollie’s carries closeout merchandise and excess inventory and has about 300 stores nationwide.
This is the second Ollie’s location located in a mall run by Pyramid Management Group. Ollie’s opened at Crossgates Commons in Albany in August 2013.
Aviation Mall General Manager James Griffith said he has been actively working with current tenants in Pyramid properties to see if they would be interested in coming to Queensbury and had a good relationship with Ollie’s.

“They’ve had great success down in the Albany market and this gives them a chance to bridge farther north or bridge farther south, using Albany as a centralized location for them,” he said.
Griffith is seeking another retailer to occupy another 30,000 square feet of the former Bon-Ton space. He is looking for an entertainment-type tenant for the remaining 20,000 square feet.
Griffith said he hopes to have announcements about tenants for those spaces in the next two months.
“There’s a lot of growth potential that’s happening up the Northway. We’re in a position to be able to offer larger space, where a person doesn’t have to come in and purchase land (and) build it. We can give them pretty much a box,” he said.
Ollie’s, founded in 1983, gets much of its merchandise direct from manufacturers. Among the products it carries are housewares, food, flooring, books, toys, home improvement, hardware, electronics, clothing, lawn and garden, health and beauty and sporting goods.
Its slogan is “Good Stuff Cheap” and its mascot is a shaggy gray-haired man who resembles Albert Einstein.
