BALLSTON SPA — Saratoga County Court is holding its second attempted murder trial of the fall, as a Greenfield man stands trial for shooting his girlfriend in the face with a shotgun.
Stephen Lerario, 42, faces felony attempted murder, assault and lesser counts for the April 7 shooting at Grange Road Mobile Home Park. He has pleaded not guilty.
He allegedly shot Katie Gilbert, critically injuring her and causing her to lose an eye, during a dispute in their home.
Testimony was ongoing before Saratoga County Judge James Murphy as of Thursday. Saratoga County Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Buckley is prosecuting, while Lerario is being represented by Saratoga County Assistant Public Defender Matthew Maiello.
Lerario has two prior felony convictions, so he faces up to 25-years-to-life in prison as a persistent felon if convicted of any felony.
