SARATOGA SPRINGS — Queensbury turned out to be too small for the owners of Lake George CrossFit.
Lisa Cirelli-Ostrander, her husband, Kevin Ostrander, and trainer Dirk Buban have opened a second gym, called CrossFit 12866, at 30 Gick Road.
They will continue to operate their original location at 238 Bay Road in Queensbury.
“A couple of things came together for us,” Cirelli-Ostrander said. “First, we have had a lot of people traveling from Saratoga to come to Lake George CrossFit, and we found there was a gym that had done CrossFit down there, and we were able to buy all the equipment and move in and open last week.”
The first thing the Ostranders and Buban did as new owners was to negotiate with the landlord to double the space in the new gym, which will allow them to pursue another area of training — Olympic weightlifting.
“We teach it at Lake George CrossFit, but we really don’t have much space there, and we only have one pad for weightlifting,” Cirelli-Ostrander said. “We will have nine pads in Saratoga, and we’ll be able to do a lot more with it.”
Lake George CrossFit has about 140 members, Cirelli-Ostrander said, and Crossfit 12866 already has 50, thanks to a “founding members” drive.
“What’s really cool is we are going to do this as one community,” Cirelli-Ostrander said. “Community is really a huge part of CrossFit, that’s what it’s all about. We will do some events at Lake George CrossFit and others at 12866.”
Cirelli-Ostrander and her husband, along with coach Wayne Strong, are certified USA Weightlifting coaches, and the two gyms have a total of 11 certified CrossFit coaches.
The new gym adds to the number of CrossFit locations in the area. though the others are not affiliated with the Lake George and Saratoga Springs gyms.
ADK CrossFit is also in Queensbury and Underwood Park CrossFit is in Fort Edward.
