Kelly’s Angels, the foundation started to honor former local resident and teacher Kelly Mulholland, will host its fourth annual charity 5K and children’s fun runs Sunday at Saratoga Spa State Park.
The event is held on Mother’s Day in memory of Mulholland, a mother of two who died in 2007 at the age of 37 after a battle with breast cancer. She was the wife of Whitehall native and WNYT-TV NewsChannel 13 reporter/anchor Mark Mulholland.
The event has grown each year, with 1,500 participants last year and over $15,000 raised for the charity.
“A lot of people find this is the perfect day and perfect way to honor those who’ve battled cancer,” said Mulholland.
All of the money raised by the foundation goes toward helping local children who have lost a parent or principal caregiver to cancer. The funds go toward “fun grants” for children to help them go to a Major League baseball game, a Broadway play, amusement park or other events to help bring joy to their lives.
The event begins at the park’s Orenda Pavilion. The children’s fun run will kick off at 8:45 a.m., with the 5k set for 9:15 a.m. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
