Trump’s never-ending lies continue
Deadbeat Donald is still at it. This time he is figuratively standing on the bodies of those who died in 9/11 and our soldiers who died afterward in order to create a photo-op of himself “single-handedly” negotiating a deal with the Taliban. (Who does he think believes this stuff?) In the process, he wanted to desecrate Camp David by fawning over another of our enemies. Such a long list of Trump’s favorite people: two-bit hoodlums like Putin, Kim, so many other dictators, and now the Taliban.
Trump’s never ending stream of lies continues as he says he cancelled the Taliban’s guest appearance on his unreality show after they murdered another American.
A few thousand deaths were OK, but one more was too much? Did that cause his bone spurs to ache?
It appears that the real reason the Taliban leaders backed out was their refusal to be another prop in Trump’s gratuitous photo-ops and refusal to allow Trump to pretend that he at long last actually negotiated a settlement. Too bad Moscow Mitch and the rest of the GOP trembles in fear of those terrible tweets and won’t stand up to Trump in the same way.
The master negotiator has an unblemished record. China, North Korea, Mexico, Taliban ... 0 for everything.
I’ve never been a fan of John Bolton or the wars he wants to start, but is anyone surprised that Trump would pretend to fire someone who had already offered his resignation? The reason there are so many second and third stringers in Trump’s administration is that no decent, competent person is willing to work for such an irrational, unprincipled and unpredictable person.
It’s about common, connected humanity
“The Glens Falls 6” appreciated your Sept. 7 editorial on our plight and calling us “dastardly desperados”; as peace and justice activists we have been called much worse. It is a gift to find yourself an overweight, out of shape senior citizen and still have someone think you’re some kind of “bad ass.” As we are all “past middle age,” as you so tenderly put it, we would also have accepted being called “The Dirty Half Dozen” for the cultural reference for people of our generation.
All humor aside, we were in Stefanik’s office to plead on behalf of our common and connected humanity.
This is an administration that claimed Christ to get elected and then acts in ways that make the angels weep. With our tax money, in our names, children are being separated from their families and put in what amount to concentration camps; traumatized to the point of mental and physical illness. Many will carry lifelong disabilities from this treatment. Those are the lucky ones, at least seven children (that we know of) have died in these camps.
This is not about Trump or anti-Trump. It’s not even about legal or illegal immigration. This is about who we are as a nation. This is about our basic humanity and decency.
This is also about understanding that what the government does to others, they can (and often will) do to you.
Scripture calls us to treat the foreigners among us as our own and makes clear that we belong to each other. “What you have done to the least of my people, you have done to me.”
That’s why we were in Stefanik’s office.
Trump making war with Iran inevitable
In response to Iran bombing oil fields in Saudi Arabia, Trump responds by saying, “We are locked and loaded” as if this is some kind of a “bad joke.” It’s not – it’s called war!
He bullies Iran until they do something dumb and stupid and call his bluff and all he can do is make some sort of stupid reply! Even a blind man can see that Iran made this attack and catches Trump with his pants down. And now he doesn’t have Bolton around to respond with more bombs and bullets. He still has Putin to tell him not to do it.
He has created an impossible dilemma for himself and the USA! To make matters 10 times worse – he has isolated us from our allies. He puts our money into a wall from a threat that is nothing compared to the one that just called his bully bluff! The one thing, unfortunately, that is most likely to get him re-elected, is a war with Iran which he is making inevitable, with no help from our allies!
He is a disgrace to everything America stands for, and there is no way we can get him out of office before he completely destroys our image among our friends abroad!
Support the student-led climate strike
The student-led climate strike is slated for Sept. 20 in Queensbury. I encourage everyone to support it. One does not have to be a student to attend the rally and show one’s support.
Last year in Sweden, 16-year-old Greta Thunberg, becoming frightened and frustrated with the inaction of adults around the world, took matters into her own hands and began striking from school. As news spread, she was joined by students all over the world. She has since spoken before the European Union, the British Parliament, and the UN. She has pleaded with the adults of this world to work to mitigate global warming, as she knows that her future and the future of her contemporaries is in jeopardy. This has become a crisis; one which we can’t afford to ignore any longer. It’s time to get shrill about this and convince our leaders that we mean business. We are currently in the midst of the sixth great extinction, and we may well be one of the species that goes extinct if we don’t do something to keep the temperature rise as low as possible.
So, I beg you, attend a rally in Albany, Queensbury or Johnstown on Sept. 20.
In Tuesday’s Boos and Bravos, The Post-Star booed the town of Queensbury’s building and codes department for giving special treatment to a resident and not requiring the resident to get a building permit. Queensbury director of building and codes contacted The Post-Star on Wednesday, saying that it did not give the resident special permission because permits were not necessary for the work he was doing. The Post-Star based its boo on an Sept. 9 story that said the work was being allowed without a permit, but that fact was in error and was not brought to the attention of the newspaper until Wednesday, Sept. 18.
