Ellsworth Lyle ‘Slim’ MacEwan, 96, of 236 Main St., South Glens Falls, joined the love of his life, Rachael Powers MacEwan, Nov. 3, 2018 at the Glens Falls Center with his loving family at his side.
Born June 3, 1922 in Jamaica, Long Island, he was the son of George and Josephine Westervelt MacEwan.
Ellsworth and Rachael married June 6, 1943 at St Mary’s Church, Hudson Falls and the couple spent their early years on the family farm in Gansevoort. The couple had 10 children, 24 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. He worked at Imperial Paper, Hercules, Ciba Geigy and after his retirement helped his daughter Jane and Jim Burnham in their craft stores. He enjoyed riding his BMW Motorcycle, camping, playing his harmonica and, most of all, being with his family.
Besides his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his sister Althea Best; his brothers Irving (Bud) MacEwan, George MacEwan, Auger MacEwan, William MacEwan; grandchildren Tammy Webb, Michelle, Noelle, Jacque and Patrick Thibeau and Timothy Johnston.
Survivors include his children; Jane L. Burnham (Jim) of Lantana, Florida, James L. MacEwan (Thu) of Lancaster, California, Virginia M “Ginny” Stratford (Jim) of Chantilly, Virginia, Dorothy J. Thibeau (John) of Alexandria, Virginia, Veronica E. Ashton of South Glens Falls, Daniel J. MacEwan (Diane) of Spencerport, Monica A. Johnston (Terry) of El Cajon, California, Patricia E. Reese (Bruce) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Thomas E. MacEwan (Deana) of Lawrence, Kansas, and Michael F. MacEwan (Gloria) of Tuxedo Park; a sister, Josephine Steele (Bob), 3 sisters-in-law Patricia Jameson (Bud), Natalie Powers, Ann Powers (Joseph); grandchildren James Burnham, Stephen Burnham, Stacia Clifton (Jon), Lisa Marmon (Steve), Jack MacEwan (Ann), Judy Kalita (John), Thomas Stratford, Jeffery Stratford (Jamie), Timothee Thibeau, Elizabeth DeCamilla (David), Henry Ashton III (Bevin), Colleen Thorndike (Stephen), Paul MacEwan (Kathleen), Mark MacEwan of Rochester, Jacqueline Gorthey (Darren), Terry Johnston (Dianne), Scott Johnston (Carissa, Loura Cote (Eric), Rachael Adair (Luther), Bruce Reese Jr (Kimberly), Anthony and Stephen MacEwan, Matthew MacEwan, and Brian MacEwan. Great-grandchildren include Emma and London Burnham, Catherine and Cynthia Clifton, Eric and Derric Timson, Jae-Lei and Lindhyn Johnson, Eoin and Conor MacEwan, Kasey Kalita, Maria Pesci, Adrian Robles, Sophie and Henry Stratford, Luke and Ellie Stratford, Drew DeCamilla, Miller and Josephine Ashton, Hunter, Gillian and Violet Gorthey, Jonathan, Amanda and Dylan Johnston, Makenna, Mickey and Mason Johnston, Nathan, Emilia, Jack, Alexander and Josiah Cote, Luther and Rhys Adair, Kennedy and Cairo Reese, Vera and Kara MacEwan. Great-great grandchildren Madeline, Johnny, Addison, Jaxon, Maia, Thiago; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main St., South Glens Falls.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. following the calling hours with Rev. Guy A. Childs of St. Michael the Archangel Church and Rev. Leonard A. Oates of the Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church officiating.
Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
