SOUTH GLENS FALLS — Thomas A. Tracy, 83, a lifelong resident of South Glens Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Glens Falls Hospital.
He was born on April 7, 1936 in Hudson Falls, and was the son of the late Paul and Marion (Allen) Tracy.
Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp from 1957 – 1960 with the rank of Corporal at the time of his discharge receiving a Good Conduct Medal.
Tom met the love of his life, Charlene Raymond and they were married on Sept. 24, 1960. He retired in 1998 after 47 dedicated years from the Grand Union Market in Bolton Landing as the store Manager.
Tom was very active in the South Glens Falls Fire Company for 64 years, formerly holding the rank of Chief of Department as well as many other positions within the department. He also was a past member of the Ticonderoga Fire Department. During his 64 years in the fire service, Tom belonged to numerous organizations and was very active in the Hudson Mohawk Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Hudson Valley Volunteer Firemen’s Association, Lower Adirondack Volunteer Fireman’s Association, Royal Order of Red Vests, Royal Order of Nut Busters, Saratoga County Chiefs and Officers Association and FASNY.
He also was a member of the Marine Corp League, Knights of Columbus and in his younger years enjoyed bowling. In 2014, Tom was the Rotary Club of South Glens Falls Citizen of the Year Recipient as well as Grand Marshall for several parades. On April 26, 2014, the Village of South Glens Falls declared it “Tom Tracy Day.”
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Charlene (Raymond) Tracy and a brother in law, Victor Root.
Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Guyette of Warrensburg; his son, Timothy Tracy (Anna) of South Glens Falls; four granddaughters, Alyssa Cullember of Hudson Falls, Kayla Arnold (Jesse) of Warrensburg, Megan Tracy of Austin, Texas, Sierra Frederick of Albany; two grandsons, Jace Varney of South Glens Falls and Alex Frederick of South Glens Falls; four great grandchildren, Zachary Jones, Ryker Cullember, Royce Arnold and Jessi Arnold. He is also survived by three sisters, Patricia Chase (Russell) of South Glens Falls, Carol Root of South Glens Falls, Joyce Galcik (Paul) of Schuylerville; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday April 23, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls.
Burial will follow with full military and fire department honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery, South Glens Falls.
Calling hours are scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at the South Glens Falls Fire Department, Station 2, 361 Reynolds Road, Route 197, South Glens Falls.
