QUEENSBURY — A Glens Falls man pleaded guilty Wednesday to third-degree rape for having sex with a 16-year-old girl last year.
William H. Batts, 21, faces a sentence of 6 months in Warren County Jail and 10 years on probation when sentenced May 1 by Warren County Judge John Hall.
He was not accused of physically forcing the teen to have sex, but she was too young to legally consent under state law. The state's age of consent is 17.
Police said he had sex with her on a number of occasions. Glens Falls Police arrested Batts last September.
Batts is free pending sentencing. He will have to register as a sex offender when he completes the jail term.
