FORT ANN — A Fort Ann woman was killed late Sunday night when she crashed her car on Patten Mills Road.
Chelsea D. Coutant, 29, was traveling north in her 2014 Hyundai at about 11 p.m. when the car left the roadway, careened down an embankment, rolled over and struck a tree. Coutant was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigator Michael McWhorter said the cause of the accident is still under investigation. Coutant may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
The accident happened just south of the intersection of Route 149 and Patten Mills Road. McWhorter said Coutant was on her way home, but he did not know yet where she was traveling from.
Coutant was a server at The Heidelberg Inn and had studied nursing education at SUNY Adirondack, according to her Facebook profile.
The West Fort Ann Fire Department and Fort Ann EMS assisted at the scene.
