LAKE LUZERNE — Five people were hurt in a Saturday afternoon crash in Lake Luzerne.

The accident happened at about 3 p.m. on Lake Avenue, according to the State Police public information website.

Yara Venkateshawar, 37, of Westborough, Massachusetts, was traveling north on Lake Avenue in a 2008 Honda Accord when he crossed over the double solid line and struck a 2003 Lexus driven by 59-year-old John P. Gafford of Mobile, Alabama, police said.

Venkateshawar was transported to Saratoga Hospital, and an 8-year-old child in his vehicle was taken by helicopter to Albany Medical Center with serious facial and neck injuries, police said.

The child was not properly restrained in the car, but is recovering from the injuries, according to police.

Gafford was transported to Glens Falls Hospital and other passengers were taken to other local hospitals. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
