QUEENSBURY — Six fire departments were called into action Wednesday night in response to a fire that destroyed a home at 77 Gregwood Circle.

The fire at the home in the Forest Park mobile home park was first called in around 5:45 p.m.

West Glens Falls Fire Department First Assistant Chief Michael Gordon said everyone was out of the house before his team arrived and there were no injuries.

Fire crews remained on the scene until around 10 p.m. Firefighters dug their way under the home from the front side to get at remnants of the fire underneath the house. Several panels and windows were removed in order to pump smoke out of the home.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to Gordon.

Bill Barber, a brother of one of the residents, said the residents recently had electrical work done and he thought the fire may be related to that. He said when they returned home and plugged in appliances, something sparked and caught fire.

Gordon said cold weather, such as the near single digits on Wednesday night, makes fighting fires much more difficult. He said frozen water lines and hoses can back things up, and several firefighters said their gloves were frozen in the frigid temperatures.

There were no water lines close to the home, so several tanker trucks were needed to shuttle in water. The assisting departments included West Glens Falls, South Queensbury, Queensbury Central, Bay Ridge, Corinth and South Glens Falls.
