BALLSTON SPA — A Saratoga Springs man received the maximum sentence Thursday in Saratoga County Court for brutally beating his dog resulting in its death.
Aaron Brinkley, 31, will serve 2 years in Saratoga County Jail for the attack on his Boston Terrier, named Riko, on Oct. 6, 2017 at his Quiet Harbor Drive home.
A trial convicted Brinkley of felony aggravated animal cruelty on Sept. 24 in Saratoga County Court. The jury heard evidence that Brinkley hit Riko with a hammer several times after the dog bit his thumb. The dog sustained injuries including fractured teeth and internal injuries.
Saratoga County Judge James Murphy also imposed a court order prohibiting Brinkley from owning any animals for 50 years.
