The Warren County Sheriff's Office arrested a man who allegedly possessed a stolen painting from an art gallery.

Michael J. Vittengl, 61, was charged with third degree criminal possession of stolen property, a Class D felony, according to a news release.

Police said Vittengl stole the painting, which was valued at about $4,800, from an undisclosed art gallery in Saratoga Springs.

Vittengl was arraigned in Queensbury Town Court and remanded to Warren County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond for bail.

During the investigation, police determined he possessed the painting at a Queensbury business and made attempts to sell it.

Investigators also said he approached numerous businesses and individuals to solicit donations to a fake masquerade ball called "The Great Gatsby."

The Warren County Sheriff's Office is asking individuals who purchased tickets to contact them by calling 518-743-2500.

The case was investigated by Investigators Edward Affinito and Douglas David.
