GRANVILLE — A Hartford man was jailed Wednesday night after police learned he allegedly paid an 8-year-old girl to undress in front of him, police said.

Michael R. Martindale, 25, was arrested after an investigation by Granville Police earlier this week, officials said. He was charged with use of a child in a sexual performance, a felony, and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child, according to Granville Police.

Martindale was charged after the child, with whom he is acquainted, disclosed to someone that he had given her a few dollars one day earlier this month to take her clothes off while he watched at an undisclosed location in the village of Granville, Granville Police Officer T.J. Zovistoski said.

There was no indication he had sexual contact with the child, or that he took pictures or video of her, police said.

Zovistoski said the investigation was continuing, but police did not have any evidence of other incidents between Martindale and the child.

Martindale was arraigned and sent to Washington County Jail for lack of bail, and an order of protection was issued barring him from having contact with the child. The felony charge is punishable by up to 15 years in state prison.

Zovistoski and Granville Police Officer Keith Seebode handled the case.
