Column: The woman behind the savings

Maybe you are new to the area. Maybe you read my column each and every week. If you do, then thank you. If you are just browsing over the paper this morning and have come across my column, let me introduce myself and tell you why I do what I do.

My name is Kimberly Butler. I live in Queensbury with my husband, Bill, and my children, Samantha and Aaron. I am a small business owner, and have been for nearly 20 years, owning a daycare. I have plenty of hobbies and activities that keep me busy, but one of my favorite things is to save money.

I have always loved using coupons and searching for the best price on items. A few years ago, a friend of mine showed me new and exciting ways to coupon even better. Who knew there was a different way? But there sure was. And it unlocked many new ways to plan out my savings for the month.

I was so blown away by what I could do, I decided to start to share it in the form of a class located at The Post-Star. I would pick an evening and have wonderful people join me from around the region who also wanted to save money. Everyone would leave the class with the knowledge to go right to the store and get items for free, or close to it. And anyone who has taken the class has recommended it in the future to others.

While the class is a great source of information, not everyone can get to Glens Falls to take part of the class. So, I then asked if I could write a column, which would include information about saving money, using coupons and keeping more of your paycheck to yourself every month. The Post-Star agreed it was a great idea for a column and has been publishing it for over two years.

While this is mainly a hobby and way to save money every month, I have enjoyed talking to people through email, Facebook or even while shopping in the store. I have met many people who have told me they have learned so much from me and enjoy doing what they have learned. For anyone who has given me that feedback, I say thank you.

So, I hope this explains who I am and what I do, but most importantly, why I do what I do. I love helping people save money. And I look forward to doing it for a very long time.

In my monthly class at The Post-Star, I go into detail about using coupons, saving money, finding monthly deals and how they will benefit your family and your pocketbook. There are free giveaways during the class as well. I would really like you to join me for my next class at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20. Feel free to call 518-742-3309, or go to
