Mohican Street closed during nights

GLENS FALLS — Mohican Street is closed from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through Friday night as National Grid works on a remediation project.

The utility company is cleaning up the former Niagara Mohawk gas plant at 14 Mohican St.

The plant, which closed in 1950, had made gas by heating coal, which left behind a coal tar that has the consistency of blacktop sealer.

Some of that byproduct was released into the ground, the Feeder Canal and the Hudson River.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health in 2003 mandated that the site be cleaned up.

VA outpatient clinic moving April 1

GLENS FALLS — The VA outpatient clinic will move next month to a larger facility run by Valor Healthcare, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced.

It will move from 84 Broad St. to 101 Ridge St. on April 1.

The contract with the health care providers at 84 Broad St. is expiring, so the VA went through its normal contract process and awarded the new contract to Valor Healthcare.

At the new location, the clinic will be able to offer telemedicine and other services that were not available before.

Letters have been sent to every veteran who uses the clinic, informing them of the change of location and providing contact information for Christopher Bender, Stratton VAMC’s Primary Care Administrative Officer, at (518) 626-6561.

One-third of Valor Healthcare’s leadership team is comprised of veterans. The agency operates more than 30 VA clinics in the country.
