High winds cause power outages

Hundreds of local residents lost electricity early Saturday as high winds whipped through the region.

National Grid reported nearly 550 residents of Warren and Washington counties who lost power as winds topped 40 mph in parts of the region.

The hardest hit towns were Thurman, Dresden and Chester, with restoration expected later Saturday morning.

NYSEG reported nearly 300 customers in Salem, Jackson, and central Essex County without electricity, with no likelu restoration time listed.

A wind advisory is in effect from the National Weather Service until late Saturday afternoon.
