DEAR ABBY: I’ve been in a long-term relationship with my boyfriend, “Mack,” for about 25 years. Eleven years ago we became more like roommates. I asked him to go to couples counseling, but he adamantly refused. He said, “If you don’t like it, find someone else.”
The Virgo sun’s unparalleled work ethic combined with the Aries moon is a fearsome force by day, a soothing campfire by night. It brings to mind the balance of work to rest, an ideal in the mind very rarely reflected in reality. The exertion of effort goes through many stages: fun, interesti…
The Aries lunar energy makes quick work of the cleanup after the full moon in Pisces. There are many questions that seemed extremely relevant last night — or even a few hours or minutes ago — that could be asked and yet won’t be, as they will hardly seem pertinent now. It’s like the world ha…
DEAR ABBY: In our 20 years of marriage, my wife’s two sons have frequently stopped by or called ahead with literally 10 minutes to a half-hour’s notice. It usually happens around mealtime, when we aren’t prepared for feeding multiple people.
DEAR ABBY: I was adopted at 6 weeks old. My parents adopted my sister two years later. They weren’t very good parents — not abusive, but with no understanding of how to treat children. Ten years later they had a biological son, who became the center of their world, and I was pretty much left…
But a few hours into the Mercury retrograde, the shift in relationship dynamics may be palpable. Where do you stand? Who can you rely on? Who relies on you and for what? These questions and more will be answered with real-life evidence in the weeks to come. Let time unfold the story. No need…
DEAR ABBY: My husband inherited a nasty habit from his mother. He calls people “crazy” to discredit them so he can win arguments and stifle discussion. I have told him it’s lazy to pass judgment on someone that way. It also shows the world how ignorant he is, because he thinks he’ll win ever…
Mercury goes retrograde in Libra, the sign of relationships, and will continue with the mischief until Sept. 23. Don’t worry; optimal results can come out of trouble, which is at the very least more interesting than a predictable pattern. This jostle in the realm of partnership might be just…
DEAR ABBY: I have been with my boyfriend for nine years. Over the last three months or so we have been fighting. It started when I bought a cabinet for our bathroom. When he came home, he threw a hissy fit about it. He told me he didn't like it and kept yelling at me "'cause I didn't ask his…

As Mercury stations to turn retrograde, difficulties and contradictions may be part of the plot. Keep in mind that just because something takes more effort than you want to give or scrapes uncomfortably against your worldview, that does not mean it has to be approached in all seriousness.
DEAR ABBY: My younger sister, “Fern,” gave birth to a son three months ago. Since she returned to work, it seems like all she does is dump her baby, “Ricky,” on others so she can sleep with her special someone. I watched Ricky a couple of times while they ran errands, even though they have s…
The Aquarius moon encourages fellowship and joining. Just remember, it’s all optional! People have plans and wishes that involve you, but you’re not obligated to take them on. They will construct rewards to bribe you into their fold, which is not necessarily a bad place to be, unless you hav…
Discussion groups, meetings and social life in general will be rife with this common but annoying tendency: People ask questions they have no interest in finding answers to. The Capricorn moon advises you listen through the ruse to get to the real purpose for the question. Then, give them wh…
A lot of people enjoy getting on a plane for a variety of reasons – like going on vacation or anticipating seeing family and friends, but we rarely hear people excited to get on a plane for the food selections available on board!
Q: How can I get started with keeping a food diary?
I’ m not eating much meat these days, but occasionally I have a major longing for a steak. And since I was recently in Paris and had a version of this nostalgic, delicious dish, I can’ t get it out of my mind. A tender filet of beef, with its lean texture, is accompanied by a cheesy, creamy sauce.
Never grilled pineapple? Get ready to be wowed. It caramelizes beautifully for a deeper flavor. Plus it’s a totally tasty match with a grilled pork chop, cilantro and a little heat from serranos.

Conditions for first-time home buyers looked different in the first quarter of 2023 compared with one year before, but they hadn’t necessarily improved. Across the country, while active listings in the first quarter fell from the previous quarter, they remained significantly higher than a year ago, and asking prices held relatively steady. However, homes were...

Pope Francis is going the hospital for surgery on his intestine, two years after he had 33 centimeters (13 inches) of his colon removed because of an inflammation and narrowing of the large intestine. He left the Vatican shortly after 11 a.m. The Vatican said Francis, 86, would be put under general anesthesia and would be hospitalized for several days. Earlier Wednesday, the pontiff presided over his weekly general audience. The 86-year-old pope spent three days at the hospital in late March. Initially, the Vatican said he had gone in for scheduled tests, but the pontiff later revealed he had felt pain in his chest and was rushed to the hospital, where bronchitis was diagnosed. He was put on intravenous antibiotics and was released April 1, quipping that he was “still alive.”

The billion-dollar amount cited by former Sen. Al Franken, while an estimate, is likely very close to what insurers will owe this year under a provision of the Affordable Care Act that compels rebates when insurers spend too little on actual medical care.
The Wisconsin Assembly is slated to approve a package of bills Wednesday designed to help improve the system of issuing professional licenses to everyone from tattoo artists to doctors and nurses that has been plagued with delays since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. Republicans who control the Legislature have blamed the delays on Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’ administration. All of the bills up for a vote Wednesday were supported by Republicans in committee and opposed by Democrats. One measure would double the length of time licenses would remain in effect, from two years to four years. The proposed change is backed by Wisconsin hospitals, nurses and other health care providers.
