JACKSON — Stephen P. Blackler Sr. went home to Heaven Sunday, Veterans Day, Nov. 11 2018 in the home he built, surrounded by his family. He was born to Frieda (Pracht) and John Blackler in Far Rockaway. After attending Far Rockaway High School, Stephen enlisted in the United States Navy and served from February 1957 until September 1960.
Stephen married the love of his life, Claudia, June 16, 1962. They shared 56 years together raising their three children and traveling the world.
Besides his parents, Steve was predeceased by his brothers Gary Blackler and John Blackler Jr; and his daughter-in-law, Roxana Blackler.
Survivors include his loving wife, Claudia; his children, Stephen Jr. (Ann Villet), Laura Hall (Allan Lemoine), Kenneth; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Cecilia, Jacob, Claudia and Caleb; sister, Donna (Joe); sisters-in-law, Patty and Lorraine (Simon); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Our family wishes to add a special thank you to all our friends and family who have supported us during this difficult time as well as the staff of the Stratton Medical Center, Albany and Hospice for all the excellent and loving care they provided to Stephen and our family throughout his illness. He has donated his physical remains to the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 17 at New Skete Monastery, Cambridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be given to support veterans.
